Accumoli, one of the municipalities hardest hit by the 2016 earthquake, is now a symbol of resilience and hope. After years of hardship and gradual depopulation, the town is striving to rebuild itself, thanks to the efforts of its newly elected mayor, Mauro Tolomei, who has made the revitalization of the territory a central focus of his agenda.
"We need to bring young people back to the town," Tolomei states with determination, emphasizing that the future of Accumoli depends on its ability to attract new generations and make them feel like active participants in the town's revival. Among the ideas in the works, the mayor is proposing the creation of a factory to bottle the pure spring water that flows from local sources—an industry that could offer new job opportunities and give a boost to the local economy.
Despite the challenges of reconstruction, Accumoli is also tackling the issue of its cemeteries, which have been neglected for years due to the tremors and infrastructure damage. A new ordinance signed by Mayor Tolomei outlines the reopening of the cemeteries in November, an important step to restore dignity to the places of remembrance and to the families who have lost loved ones.
Accumoli has much to offer, and thanks to the determination of those who deeply care about this land, the hope for a better future is stronger than ever. The greatest challenge is bringing the town back to life, but with concrete ideas and a clear vision, the path forward seems finally clear.
